Service Description

Jewellery making 10 week course - 6.30 - 8.30 pm. This course is a mixed ability class suitable for beginners or returning students wanting to expand their jewellery making knowledge. Beginners - We will start with using copper to learn some basic techniques such as how to anneal metal, filing, forming, cutting metal with a piercing saw, adding texture and soldering. Each week we will build on the skills needed to make your own pieces of jewellery before utilising the skills in a bezel setting project. If you have previously attended a 1 day workshop and would like to expand your skills I would recommend starting with this course. (see FAQ page for information) The beginners course includes 1 main set project - A bezel set ring or pendant (either a gemstone, dichroic glass cabochon or sea glass) and you can choose to do this in either copper or silver. There will be a charge of £10 to cover the silver/stones should you wish to complete this in silver. (Copper is included in the price of the course) Depending on progress, students may be able to work on their own projects in the last couple of weeks of the course. Any students who wish to complete extra projects with silver will need to purchase their own silver supplies from a supplier but this can be discussed further into the course. Returning students - will we start with an optional tube setting project. There will be a £5 charge for silver should you wish to attempt it. We will also do some enamelled jewellery and there will be charged at £5 for this if you wish to try it. Intermediate students are then free to undertake their own projects (students will be responsible for supplying any silver for these projects). I can also cover some other techniques on request such as flush setting, claw setting, spinner rings, Delft clay casting etc. Projects can be discussed at the start of the course. Please note - There is no firm set project for students who have completed both the beginners and returners courses and students who are returning for a third term or more will be responsible for supplying all silver for projects. You will continue to have access to a wide range of tools and equipment, materials such as copper and brass for practicing skills etc and tutor support for your projects. This course will run continually this term with no half term break
