2 Day Stone Setting Course - This course is a 2 day introduction to some stone setting techniques aimed at experienced makers wanting to expand on their stone setting skills. PLEASE NOTE THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS (If you have attended a couple of 1 days workshops you will still be classed as a beginner). This is a skills based workshop (rather than a leisure course) aimed at people who are regular makers wanting to expand on their stone setting skills and knowledge. This course will be suitable if you have done one of the following - * attended a 10 week beginners course (or equivalent intensive course) plus an intermediate course * attended a recent 10 week beginners course plus done some independent making * attended multiple 1 day workshops plus done independent making. * attended one of my recent 4 day jewellery schools or 5 day summer school. If you haven't attended courses at Cheshire School of Jewellery before, please state previous experience in the 'additional details' section when booking. The scheme of work will focus on the stone setting techniques so you will be expected to know how to construct and make a ring to size and have experience of using multiple grades of solder for soldering tasks. Previous bezel setting experience will also be useful. - Course Breakdown - Day 1 - On the first day we will focus on tube setting to set small faceted stones (either 3 or 4 mm) and we will make 2 items in silver. You can choose from the following - * 2 rings with tube settings (you can make different styles to try different construction techniques including a wishbone ring) * 1 ring and 1 halo pendant * a double halo pendant with up to 2 tube settings Day 2 - On the second day you can choose one of the following projects * a collet set ring using a 6, 7 or 8 mm faceted stone by creating a tapered collet from scratch (maths and geometry required for this) * a claw set ring for a 7 or 8 mm stone using silver tube and wire to create the claws. Materials supplied - Silver wire for 2 simple item on day 1 along with CZ stones. Day 2 Round or half round wire to create a ring and either enough sheet to create the collet or silver tube plus wire for the claws plus CZ stone
