Service Description

Summer School (Beginners) - 3 day intensive course This course is suitable for beginners and is a great introduction to jewellery making. The format of this course delivers the majority of the skills covered in the 8 week course but condensed into 3 days. This aids the learning process and also means that students are then able to either progress to the intermediate summer school or the 8 week class Autumn term if they wish. Day 1 - Will be spent mastering some basics. Starting with using copper you will learn basic techniques such as how to anneal metal, filing, forming, cutting metal with a piercing saw and adding texture. Day 2 - We will spend the day concentrating on soldering by making a ring from copper to practice sizing etc. You can then make 2 silver rings from slim round wire. You can either make 2 simple stacking rings that can be textured or add a wave design or you can make a necklace from the 2 ring shapes linked together to make either a double halo pendant (one smaller ring inside the other connected with jump rings) or an infinity style necklace (2 interlinked rings). You will also make a start on creating a ring to include in the bezel setting project on day 3. Day 3 - You will make a bezel set ring or pendant creating the whole setting from scratch. You can set either a gemstone, dichroic glass cabochon or sea glass. This is a 3 day intensive course with set projects. Please note there will be a small fee for the silver payable at the time of the course and this will depend on the price of silver at the time and the projects chosen (estimate to be around £20 - £25 as a rough guide). Copper to practice on day 1 and day 2 is included. Materials charge will cover - Silver to create 2 rings on day 2 and jump rings if required for a necklace. A fine chain can be purchased if required. 1 x Bezel set ring or halo pendant - All sterling silver plus a stone supplied (gemstone, sea glass or glass cabochon).
