Ring with Collet Setting 10 - 4pm

'Summer Skills Workshop' Wednesday August 24th

Service Description

Summer Skills - Collet set ring This workshop is part of my new 'Summer Skills' program of courses aimed at experience makers who wish to continue practicing their jewellery making skills (no beginners on this class sorry). You should have attended a jewellery making course such as the 10 week course or similar or a number of one day workshops and be confident with soldering (silver soldering, not soldering with a soldering iron). We won't be practicing with copper first on this session, will be move straight to silver. Collet setting is similar to tube setting however you will make a tapered collet from scratch using sterling silver sheet. There is a bit of maths and geometry involved in creating a collet to fit your stone but I will run through the process step by step. You will create a collet setting for a 7 or 8 mm cubic zirconia and make a ring from round silver wire with shoulders either side of the collet. You will then be shown how to cut a seat for the stone using the correct size burr before finally setting the stone. Materials supplied are - 2 mm round wire for creating the ring a small amount of silver sheet to create the collet a 7 or 8 mm cubic zirconia from a choice of colours.
