2 Day Stone Setting Course - (not recommend for beginners) This course is a 2 day introduction to some stone setting techniques aimed at students who have attended some classes or workshops and have a basic understanding of how silver soldering works. If you have attended a few day workshops that involve soldering then this course is designed to take your skills to the next level and is great for people who can't commit to weekly classes. Due to the number of soldering tasks involved I would not recommend this class if you are a total beginner however if you do wish to book then please keep in mind the tasks involved are more advanced than a beginners class such as basic ring making. - Course Breakdown - Day 1 - we will focus on bezel setting flat backed stones and you can choose between either a gemstone, some sea glass or a dichroic glass cabochon. You can make either a ring or a pendant for this project and we will start by creating a ring shape from silver that will form part of the design. We will then create a setting from scratch for your chosen stone. There are lots of soldering steps involved so it great for soldering practice using all the different grades of solder. Day 2 - we will focus on tube setting to set small faceted stones (either 3 or 4 mm) and we will make 2 items in silver. You can choose from the following - * 2 rings with tube settings (you can make different styles to try different construction techniques including a wishbone ring) * 1 ring and 1 halo pendant (or similar pendant made from wire such as a tear drop shape) We will use 2 different types of tube settings for these projects. The first will be using a pre-made tube setting and the second will be a setting created from scratch using silver tube and then using burrs to create a seat for the stone. This will give students the opportunity to test out both methods. Materials supplied - Day 1 - Silver wire to create a ring shape plus all the necessary silver to create a bezel setting plus a stone from the selection available. Please feel free to bring a suitable sized flat backed stone/sea glass and we can check for suitability. Please note there are size limitations for the stone of around 15 mm. It won't be possible to set very large stones. Day 2 - Slim round silver wire for 2 simple items, tube settings and a choice of 3 & 4 mm CZ stones.
