Service Description

8 week Course - mixed ability class so suitable for beginners & returning students wanting to expand their jewellery making knowledge. Beginners - There is a set scheme of work for beginners so that each week we will build on the skills needed to make your own pieces of jewellery before utilising the skills in a bezel setting project. Week 1 - texturing metal using the rolling mill, hammers and design stamps. You will also make a stamped aluminium cuff bangle. Week 2 - Saw piercing copper to cut shapes, using a disc cutter to cut shapes, annealing and basic forming to make a copper pendant or earrings. Week 3 and 4 - Soldering/ring making including how to make a ring to size and soldering 2 components together. Week 5 and 6 - Soldering silver and bezel setting to make a bezel set ring or pendant (either a gemstone, dichroic glass cabochon or sea glass). There will be a charge of around £15 to cover the silver payable by card at the time of this project. Please note the exact amount will be determined at the time of the project due to rising cost of silver. Week 7 and 8 - Optional spinner ring project (students to supply own silver for this) or students can choose their projects for the last 2 sessions. Students who wish to complete projects in silver will need to purchase their own silver supplies from a supplier but this can be discussed further into the course. If you have previously attended a 1 day workshop and would like to expand your skills I would recommend starting with the beginners level. (see FAQ page for information). Returning/intermediate students - will we start with an optional tube setting project in either week 1 or 2. There will be a charge of around £10 for silver should you wish to attempt it however the exact amount will be determined at the time of the project due to rising cost of silver. Intermediate students are then free to undertake their own projects (there is no set SOW for students not following the beginners scheme of work and students will be responsible for supplying all silver for projects). I can also cover some other techniques on request such as collet setting, claw setting, or students can join in some of the beginners projects such as bezel setting or spinner rings for a skill refresher. Projects can be discussed at the start of the course. Date for this term - Start Friday 1st May Half term - Friday 29th May (no class) Final Class - Friday 26th June Total of 8 sessions (20 hrs)
