Service Description

This is a new 3 day intensive course providing an introduction into metal clay using both silver and copper clay. Metal clay is a fantastic material that you work like a clay and once fired turns to sold metal. Copper clay turns to solid copper and silver clay to 99.9% pure silver of hallmarking quality. Over the course of 3 days you will use several types of clay and learn a variety of techniques. Day 1 - We will start with the basics to make your own jewellery from metal clay and we will use some air drying clay to practice rolling the clay, adding texturing, cutting, shaping etc to mock up some designs. Then in the afternoon you will choose which designs to make and we will use copper clay on the first day to make a pendant or earrings or even both. We will also start creating a leaf pendant from silver clay paste and a real leaf. The leaf will be created over the 3 days so this will continue into day 2 and probably day 3 too. Day 2 - We will continue to work on the silver clay leaf and also start working with art clay silver to make some more designs. There will be time to create some more air drying clay tests if necessary and you can also continue making items from copper clay if you wish. Day 3 - We will spend day 3 combining the two different types of clay by soldering some copper accents onto your fired silver clay. Time permitting it may be possible to incorporate a small fireable CZ stone to your silver clay items or a pre-made bezel cup to your copper clay items. Everything will be torch fired so that you can continue practicing in your own time without the need to have an expensive kiln. The following materials are included to create your jewellery - 1 x 25 g pack of copper clay (enough for around 4 or 5 pieces depending on size plus a couple of smaller charms) around 7 g of paste will be provided to make a leaf pendant. 1 x 10 g pack of art clay silver (enough to create 1 - 2 pieces depending on the size) Extra packs of art clay silver may be available to buy if you would like to make extra pieces but at the time of writing this 10 g is around £50 and prices have been climbing so the final price will depend on the price of clay at the time. Additional copper clay can also be purchased and this will be around £10 for 25 g.
